GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. – The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts officially opened the Capital Region’s premiere Mah Jongg Parlor with a ribbon cutting celebration attended by community leaders, elected officials, supporters, and Mah Jongg enthusiasts.

Designed as a welcoming destination for players of all experience levels, the Mah Jongg Parlor offers a dedicated space where people can learn, play, build friendships, and become part of a growing community centered around American Mah Jongg.

“At the Paul Nigra Center, we’re always looking for new ways to bring people together,” said Shaloni Winston, CEO of The Arc Lexington. “The Mah Jongg Parlor is about much more than learning a game. It’s about creating opportunities for connection, lifelong learning, and meaningful social engagement. Everyone deserves a place where they feel they belong, and this is a place where everyone truly has a seat at the table.”

Following the ribbon cutting, guests explored the new parlor, participated in Mah Jongg discovery sessions, met instructors, learned about memberships and upcoming classes, viewed specialty Mah Jongg products, and enjoyed raffles and interactive activities throughout the Center.

“It was such a pleasure to celebrate the grand opening of the Mah Jongg parlor at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts. This new chapter for the arts center will help build our community and provide a space to learn and connect.” said Jennifer Laubenstein, Executive Director of the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce.

American Mah Jongg has experienced tremendous growth nationwide, attracting players of all ages with its unique blend of strategy, social interaction, and friendly competition. Throughout the year, the Paul Nigra Center’s Mah Jongg Parlor will offer instructional classes, open play, social events, leagues, tournaments, and special themed programs.

The new Mah Jongg Parlor reflects the Paul Nigra Center’s mission of creating engaging experiences that inspire creativity, encourage lifelong learning, and strengthen community connections.

“Our vision is to create more than a place to play Mah Jongg,” Winston said. “We want this to be a destination where people make friends, continue learning, and build lasting connections. We are proud to introduce this exciting new opportunity to Fulton County and look forward to welcoming players from throughout the Capital Region and beyond.”

Memberships are now available, and registration is open for upcoming beginner and intermediate American Mah Jongg classes.
