Thanks to the generous support of National Grid, we are able offer an awesome and affordable kid camp program. Our camps celebrate the arts through music, theater, dance, art and cooking...but that’s only the beginning! The Nigra Arts Center strives to include collaborative life-lessons about the environment, volunteerism and giving back to the community. Our instructors also incorporate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) so children have an enlightening, creative and educational experience!


Important Camp Information

  • Cost: $45 daily rate/$165 weekly rate (20% discount for members, 10% discount for children from the same family, 10% discount for Lexington Family)

  • There will be no refunds or exchanges for any of the camps unless the Nigra Arts Center cancels due to unforeseen circumstances or low enrollment.

  • Payment is due in full at the time of registration.  Payment secures your child’s spot in the camp.

  • Schedules are subject to change depending on instructor availability

  • Most camps involve cumulative projects.  Your camper will receive the best results from the camps by attending all week.

  • All camps will run daily from 8a-5p.  There will be an hour before and after each session starts and ends for drop off and pick up convenience. Fun camp activities will be provided!


STAND ALONE CAMP

Caroga Lake Music Festival Camp (CLMF)

Cost: $150

This is an educational/performance program for musicians of all ages and abilities, directed  by Kyle Barrett Price and faculty from the Caroga Lake Music Festival. Camp-goers will experience a unique music-making experience in small and large groups organized by age and ability level. The camp will include lessons, classes and close tutoring with the world-renowned faculty of CLMF. The camp will conclude with a celebration concert featuring the groups and collaborations between camp-goers and CLMF musicians.

LITTLES WEEK ONE (7/8 – 7/12/19)

  • IRL (In Real Life) Minecraft | 9a-10:30a
    Does your little person love Minecraft? Would you love to see them explore outside of the video game? Over the course of their week with us, kids will create their own creeper heads, Minecraft-style outside treasure hunts, and pizza out of pixels! We will bring a perfect combination of art and learning to life at the Nigra Arts Center!

  • Percussion Discussion | 10:30a-12n
    Kids will clap, tap and stomp their way around the Nigra Arts Center for these classes. Playing percussion is the simplest form of musical creativity and something everyone can do! Campers will start by learning the basics: form, dynamics, timbre and rhythms. By creating their own instruments in our art studios and learning the science behind percussion, campers will learn how to beat to the rhythm of their own drum!

  • Music Video Workshop | 1p-2:30p
    Have you ever wanted your kids to get a sense of what MTV was like when you were a kid? In this class, campers will be exposed to many different types of music and music videos as they work throughout the week to make their own video creation! Kids will have opportunities to create their own music, write their own lyrics and invent their own dance moves.

  • Culinary Kids | 2:30p-4p
    In this class, our chefs will use math skills like measuring, counting, fractions and sequencing to learn how to make healthy meals! Reading skills will be sharpened as they read recipes and increase their vocabulary. In addition, campers will safely learn the skills and techniques necessary to create their own culinary masterpieces da


LITTLES WEEK TWO (7/15 – 7/19/19)

  • One, Two, Three & Van Gogh! | 9a-10:30a
    In this class, your young artists will learn about the great famous artists of the past and their different styles while creating their very own masterpieces! This is a great opportunity for kids to explore different techniques and mediums. Campers will follow along with their instructors as they explore different masterpieces and create their very own artistic interpretations!

  • Animation Creation | 10:30a-12n
    Do your kids love to draw and create their own illustrations? In Animation Creation, campers will invent their own cartoon character and then bring it to life as they learn the art of cartooning during this week-long class. Campers will learn how professional artists and cartoonists create amazing, colorful characters while learning to draw by using basic shapes and perspective as they delve into the world of cartooning!

  • Clay Pottery | 1p-2:30p
    This class is all about the “fun”damentals of creating in clay! Your artists will learn hand building, slab construction, coiling, sculpture and glazing and will create their very own clay masterpiece!

  • Nature Arts | 2:30p-4p
    We will bring the beautiful Adirondacks to life at this week-long class! Campers will be involved in geocaching, creating their own sun prints and discovering their natural surroundings through science. STEAM will come to life as projects expand campers’ minds and help them gain a greater understanding of nature through hands-on experiments. Every day will be a new adventure in creativity and discovery in the perfect Adirondack setting here at the Nigra Arts Center.


LITTLES WEEK THREE (7/22 – 7/26/19)

  • Go STEAM Crazy! | 9a-10:30a
    These combo classes will feature exciting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math activities to spark the imagination of our campers! Each class will be packed with awesome mixed media visual arts activities along with engaging STEM-certified science and technology experiments. Your campers will be entertained, engaged and learning all week long!

  • Drone Workshop | 10:30-12n
    This week-long class will bring your child up to speed on the latest and greatest drone activities and regulations. Campers will learn safe ways to fly their drones on the Nigra Arts Center’s scenic property and more advanced campers will have the opportunity to learn some coding. Kids will also work with a drone to take some beautiful photos of themselves and nature!

  • Art Around the World | 1p-2:30p
    Campers will be in for a whirlwind of around-the-world fun as they learn about art in all different parts of the world. This fun and educational week will take them from Spain to France to the British Isles as they learn about how art impacts different cultures. Campers will use a multitude of media to create their own art projects which will reflect their own culture.

  • Great American Bake Off | 2:30p-4p
    Is your child a fan of baking cookies or decorating cakes? In this week-long class, campers will learn baking tricks from the professionals as they make sweet treats to share. This will culminate in a competition where the campers will divide into teams on their last day and put their baking skills to the test! Area judges will come in to give the perfect taste tests to our little bakers as they share their desserts. Even better, your campers will bring home goodies to share with you!


LITTLES WEEK FOUR (7/29 – 8/2/19)

  • Flips Over Comic Strips! | 9a-10:30a
    During this class, kids will learn the fundamentals of cartooning and comic strip illustration, along with learning to animate the way the professionals do it! Emphasis will be placed on anatomy setup, character profile and design. Campers will learn how to create animations and put them in simplistic motion. If your kid has always been a doodler, this is the class for them!

  • Concoctions & Potions | 10:30a-12n
    Calling all mad scientists! In this class, campers will unleash their inner artist while learning some chemistry, too! The visual art activities will come together through exciting chemical concoctions! This camp is the perfect blend of STEAM activities and is guaranteed to spark creativity and fun.

  • Robotics | 1p-2:30p
    This class is an introduction to the world of robotics. Campers will learn about circuits and power sources as they build a “Mars-like” RC Rover. Campers will work in the areas of observation, experimentation and trial and error as they build and race their robots. Campers will be able to take home the robots they build for hours of fun after the camp week has finished!

  • Space Invaders | 2p-4:30p
    Campers will navigate the stars and planets as they document their journeys with art and imagine and interpret the final frontier! Campers will come to understand the complexities of space travel and the mystical allure of our solar system all while having great fun and creating art!


LITTLES WEEK FIVE (8/5 – 8/9/19)

  • Theater Workshop | 9a-11:30a
    Campers will work with actress Ashley Polidore to write a script, design their own costumes and scenery, and create their very own production! Campers will learn all of the backstage secrets of how to perform well on stage. All kids will have the opportunity to express themselves and possibly discover a hidden talent as they take on the many tasks of putting on a show!

  • Trash to Treasure | 1p-2:30p
    Anyone can buy fancy supplies from the craft store when they want to tackle an art project. However, it takes a truly creative spirit to make something out of upcycled DIY ideas from unused items and that is exactly what our campers will be doing! Campers will be turning their trash into treasures as they upcycle objects that are no longer are being used. Upcycling is different from recycling because it isn’t just turning one thing into another - it’s about giving new life to something that no one else wants. Campers will show their true creativity as they tackle these projects!

  • Super Hero Workshop | 2:30p-4p
    Does your child want to find out what their super power is? In this amazing workshop of adventure and fun, kids will re-imagine themselves and their favorite characters through superhero art projects. Super-girls and super-boys will strengthen their creative muscles and practice drawing and painting skills while making awesome masks, props and fantasy worlds for their super-adventures. Combined with the philosophy that “not all superheroes wear capes,” your child will find and create character traits within each other and themselves and discover creative ways to express them through art and fun!


LITTLES WEEK SIX (8/12 – 8/16/19)

  • Beginner’s Beauty School | 9a-10:30a
    Does your child have a passion for makeup, hair and the latest fashions? In this class, campers will learn how to apply makeup just like their favorite YouTuber. They will also learn how to create the latest hairstyles and design their own fashion sketch. With the help of area professional cosmetologists, your camper will be ready to walk the runway at the end of the week! (If your child is not interested in this subject matter but would still like to come to camp this week, we will be offering a potpourri of different camp activities during this time period that they can participate in.)

  • Fitness Fun | 10:30a-12n
    This class is perfect for getting out the last-minute wiggles before returning to the classroom! Activities will consist of all things energy-burning, including dance, ZUMBA, exercise drums, Nirvana for kids and yoga. Campers will create their own obstacle courses outside with some friendly competitions to wrap up the week.

  • Carnival Party | 1p-4:30p
    Come one, come all! In this class, your camper will get a taste of event and party planning! Kids will work together all week as a team to create the ultimate carnival party. This will include activities that are carnival-themed, including games, snacks and even some costumes! Everyone will be required to put on their best creative-thinking caps to make this the biggest party of the summer! At the end of the week, all campers will get to enjoy their hard work at their Carnival Party at the Nigra Arts Center.

BIGS WEEK ONE (7/8 – 7/12/19)

  • Music Video Workshop | 9a-10:30a
    Is your child a fan of pop music and video clips? Do they use the Musical.ly app? In this class, we will guide campers through a number of steps to create an original music video! They will write song lyrics, tune with GarageBand and film their clip using a green screen!

  • Culinary Kids | 10:30a-12n
    How nice would it be to have some help cooking dinner? In this camp, your kids will work alongside our Nigra Arts Center chefs to learn the basics of planning, shopping and cooking healthy meals. This class is both educational and fun as they learn about nutrition, smart shopping, basic cooking skills and presentation. At the end of the week your child will be well equipped to plan a family meal for you!

  • IRL (In Real Life) Fortnite | 1p-2:30p
    Get your kids to “floss” right over to the Nigra Arts Center for a week of Fortnite fun that does not involve looking at a screen! Campers will be excited to learn as they mix science, math and art into projects involving the Fortnite theme. They will create loot llamas, duh burgers, water grenades and make their own supply drops! The fun will culminate with a Battle Royale at the end of the week.

Our collaborative and energetic environment will lay the foundation for your kids to let loose and let the words flow.
