With their mix of contemporary pop, country, classic rock, blues, jazz and oldies, The Usual Suspects entertain audiences with original music and uniquely interpreted covers. Hailing from Schenectady, NY, this five-piece group of veteran musicians perform a multi-genre song list covering such artists as Wilson Pickett, Zac Brown, Junior Parker, The Grateful Dead and Van Morrison as well as Ed Sheeran, OneRepublic, Sister Hazel and local singer/songwriter Andy Chestnut.

This concert is part of the Nigra Arts Center’s 2018 Concert Series, featuring ten local acts in a variety of genres and styles. All shows are open to the public and will take place in the center’s Grand Gallery at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville.

Paul Nigra Arts Center for Creative Arts to Host Glimmerglass Festival young Artists Program Concert

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is honored to host a special concert featuring The Glimmerglass Festival’s Young Artists program on Tuesday, July 17, at 7 p.m. The Young Artists will present a mix of Glimmerglass’s 2018 season repertoire of opera songs as well as favorites from the opera and musical theater canon.

This concert is generously sponsored by John and Sunday Blackmon and The Glimmerglass Festival. It is free for the general public to attend and open to all. Donations will be accepted at the door.

The Glimmerglass Festival is an opera company in Cooperstown that hosts four opera productions and a variety of other musical performances and guest speakers each summer. The Glimmerglass Festival’s Young Artists program is an apprenticeship program for singers, directors, conductors and coach/accompanists. The program provides training and experience for talented artists in the early stages of their professional career. The Young Artists perform in mainstage productions, concerts and Glimmerglass’s Lounge series, and they cover principal roles. Nigra Arts Center to host Mother's Day Brunch Concert featuring Annie and the Hedonists

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is excited to host a Mother’s Day celebration with a delicious brunch in its spacious Grand Gallery with a concert performed by Capital Region band Annie and the Hedonists. The concert and brunch will take place Saturday, May 12, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $35 and available at pncreativeartscenter.org or by calling 518-661-9932.

Known for acoustic blues, vintage jazz and swing, and folk roots Americana music, Annie and the Hedonists will perform while guests enjoy a menu that includes quiche, stuffed French toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes, salad greens, refreshments and desserts.  

Annie and the Hedonists features Annie Rosen on lead vocals; Jonny Rosen on guitar and vocals; Peter Davis on clarinet, tenor guitar, piano and vocals; and Don Young on bass and vocals. They have produced five albums since 2001 and perform regularly at festivals, swing dances and concert venues large and small across New York and the United States. Flame to Debut Sixth Album, "Christmas Classics," at Release Party

The band Flame will celebrate the release of their new album, “Christmas Classics,” on Thursday, December 7, with a CD Release Party. The party will take place 6-7:30 p.m. at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts, 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville. There is no cost for admission.

At the party, Flame will perform songs from their new album. Attendees will be the first to have the chance to purchase “Christmas Classics” at a one-time special price of $10. There will also be snacks, raffles, autograph opportunities and more. 

Flame recorded “Christmas Classics” in April at SUNY Schenectady County Community College’s (SCCC) School of Music’s Vianna-Brignola Recording Studio. Hailey Lozier, at the time a Music Audio Technology major at SCCC and intern with the band, acted as lead engineer under the direction of Sten Isachsen, assistant professor in the SCCC School of Music. The album’s six-song track listing includes classics such as “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “Run, Run Rudolph,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Santa Baby” and “Where Are You Christmas” as well as the original song “Wide Awake.”

This is Flame’s sixth album and second Christmas album. “Christmas Classics” and the rest of Flame’s discography are available for purchase at the Nigra Arts Center’s gift shop and online at www.flametheband.com. It is also available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby and for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and Napster.

Flame is a ten-piece band comprised entirely of musicians who happen to have disabilities. They formed in 2003 at a talent show put on by Lexington, a chapter of The Arc New York. Flame has a repertoire of more than 100 classic rock, pop, country and blues songs from the past 50 years as well as some original tracks. In the past 14 years, they have produced six albums and a single. They tour the northeastern United States in a custom bus and play more than 70 shows per year. Some of the biggest venues they have played include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the House of Blues in Cleveland, New York City’s Apollo Theater, Harvard Law School, the Greek Ministry of Education building in Athens, Greece, the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho, and the 19th International Festival of Different Abilities in Carpi, Italy. Flame has received press from Good Morning America, People magazine, Metroland magazine and the Daily Mainichi News in Tokyo, Japan.

Durey Creek Bluegrass Band to perform at Nigra Arts Center

The Durey Creek Bluegrass Band will perform a concert at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts on Friday, October 20. The show begins at 7 p.m. The arts center is located at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville.

The band, comprised of Bob Kilmer on bass, Marilyn Fegley on rhythm guitar and harmony vocals, Jeff Nasadoski on banjo and Nancy Purcell on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, originated in the North Bush United Methodist Church in 2008. They specialize in bluegrass and gospel music performed at churches, community events, fairs, festivals and other venues around Fulton County and throughout New York’s Capital Region.

Maria Zemantauski brings flamenco-style guitar to Nigra Arts Center

The fourth concert of the season at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts will take place Friday, June 23, with a concert featuring Maria Zemantauski. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. at the arts center, located at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville.

Maria Zemantauski is one of the world’s few heralded female flamenco-style guitarists, and one of even fewer female flamenco composers. Her programs are a dynamic blend of artistic freedom, innovation and tradition. Maria believes that the expressive possibilities of the guitar are limitless and pursues her music with passion, confidence and grace. Electric City Chorus to Electrify Nigra Arts Center

The third concert of the season at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts will take place Saturday, May 20 with a concert featuring the Electric City Chorus. The show begins at 3:00 p.m. at the Arts Center, located at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville.

The Electric City Chorus is a men's a cappella close harmony singing group based in Schenectady. They have been singing barbershop harmony since 1944. Their repertoire draws from Broadway musicals, pop music and big band standards. They perform love songs, toe-tappers and hits from across the decades, all sung in a unique four-part a cappella close harmony style.

In its mission to share the joy of music with everyone, the chorus has performed at many public and private events over the years, including at parks, parades, civic events, libraries, telethons, patriotic programs, sporting events, theaters and local schools.

Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts to host concert and brunch event

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is hosting a special concert and brunch event on Sunday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Upswing Duo, a jazz group specializing in standards from the classic American Songbook, will provide music while participants enjoy a menu of quiche, stuffed French toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes, salad greens, desserts and beverages.

The food will be prepared by Kingsboro Catering, which provides training and experience opportunities for men and women supported by Lexington. The Upswing Duo will play during the meal, with a break for dessert prior to the second half of the concert.

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is hosting this special event in conjunction with its 2017 concert series, wherein a variety of local musical groups will play shows at the arts center throughout the year. The next installment of the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts’ 2016 concert series will take place on Thursday, November 10, with a performance from the JECCO Trio. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the arts center’s facility at 2736 State Highway 30 in Mayfield. Admission is $10 in advance or at the door. The JECCO Trio is a high-octane fusion group that pulls from a wide array of influences to radically interpret classic jazz standards and pop tunes along with original songs. Hailing from the Capital Region and comprised of Lecco Morris on piano, Jeff Nania on tenor sax and Rob Morrison on cajon, tabla and drumset, this trio sports a unique stylistic blend of jazz, funk, pop and free improv that is sure to surprise and delight listeners across the musical spectrum. Their sound pulls from each of the members’ wildly different backgrounds, including classical composition, free jazz, Indian classical music and progressive rock.

The next installment of the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts’ 2016 concert series will take place on Thursday, October 20, when they host Irish Tenor Tim Keegan. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the arts center’s facility at 2736 State Highway 30 in Mayfield. Tim Keegan is a well-known Irish tenor who sang for many years with the Foothills Trio and, more recently, the Inter-Mountain Trio (IM3). Keegan often performs at private and community settings where his silky tenor voice can sell any tune from ballad to love song to Irish Folk song. He will perform solo, accompanying himself on guitar, and will share some new songs and a few old favorites. Keegan is also an engaging and approachable storyteller, sharing laughs and history between songs. This intimate concert is not to be missed.

Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts announces next installment of concert series featuring Dick Solberg, the Sun Mountain Fiddler

The next installment of the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts’ 2016 concert series will take place on Thursday, September 8, when they host Dick Solberg, the Sun Mountain Fiddler. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the arts center’s facility at 2736 State Highway 30 in Mayfield. Born in New York City, Dick Solberg was trained classically on the piano and the violin, but when he encountered "fiddling" in old-timey, bluegrass, Celtic and Cajun styles, he was hooked. His professional career started in 1976, when he fiddled on the streets in places such as Ann Arbor, Michigan; Provincetown, Cape Cod; and Coconut Grove, Florida. He has performed at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, on the Great Wall of China and at the American University in Cairo. Dick continues to play across America and in the Caribbean, where he has spent 34 winter seasons in St. Thomas.

The next installment of the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts’ 2016 concert series will take place on Friday, August 19, when they host a recital performed by faculty members of Gloversville Community Music. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the arts center’s facility at 2736 State Highway 30 in Mayfield. Faculty members of Gloversville Community Music Kelly Lockwood, oboist, and Joshua Thompson, French hornist, will perform an evening of chamber music with special guest artists. Kelly and Joshua are freelance musicians and educators who perform throughout the northeastern United States. They can often be seen playing as a duo for local events, including those for the Micropolis Art Cooperative in downtown Gloversville.

Nigra Arts Center announces Adirondack Foothills Rock Festival

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts will host its first ever Adirondack Foothills Rock Festival on Saturday, July 30. The festival will feature performances by four local rock bands at the arts center’s facility at 2736 State Highway 30 in Mayfield. Admission is $15 and tickets are available for advance purchase at www.pncreativeartscenter.org/concertseries or at the door.

The festival will begin at noon with a performance from Flame, a cover band comprised of musicians who happen to have disabilities. At 1 p.m., Third Rael will take the stage to perform some of the greatest rock songs of all time. The Smythe’ Brothers 2 will play rock and blues music at 2 p.m. Jocelyn and Chris Arndt will take the stage at 3 p.m. to close the festival with their original retro-rock music.

Chicken barbecue dinners from Whitey’s Meat, Deli and Catering will be available for $10 each, but must be bought in advance. Simply add the dinners to your order when you buy advance tickets online. Each dinner includes half a chicken, a baked potato, a dinner roll and coleslaw.
